SARDA (Highveld ) goes to the “Ball” - Part
2
In return for the funds received all we had to do was make a
presentation to 198 people after the dinner and then sit back and
enjoy the good food and the “Sports Memorabilia” auction. It all
sounds very simple but we hadn’t made a presentation to such an
ornate gathering of people before and Mike the Chairman at the time
and I (Vice Chairman) had just one week to make it happen! We had a
power point presentation that had been made up for us a short while
before, but as it had never been used, it needed to be organised and
made to ‘sound professional’ on the night. Mike and I, after several
late nights, meetings and various e-mails back and forth, finally
came up with the document with a few hours to spare.
Then the difficult part started with two days to find long
dresses (a tuxedo for Mike!), jewellery, shoes, bags and other
accessories to look respectably dressed for the ball. However, we
made it on the evening, Mike, Lindal (our treasurer), Claire (one of
our instructors) and I. We are not sure which was the most amusing
to see, our amazement to find we had managed a transformation from
muddy and dirty jodhpurs, messy hair and broken nails when we looked
at ourselves in the mirror or the looks on each others faces as we
suddenly recognised the glamorous person next to us was in fact a
committee member at SARDA.
